Mishael Abbott Doubles her Chances at June Sprints
Will Race in Both Formula Mazda and C Sports Racer Classes
INDIANAPOLIS (June 21, 2007) – Mishael Abbott returns to Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) racing this weekend hoping to grab double wins at The 52nd Annual Piggly Wiggly June Sprints® National Road Racing Championships. Mishael will be racing in both Formula Mazda and C Sports Racer classes in the first leg of the prestigious Triple Crown of SCCA racing.
“I have really been looking forward to being back at Road America for the June Sprints,” said Mishael Abbott. “This year I’ll be driving both my cars at one of my all-time favorite tracks.”
Mishael will be asking for some advice from her father, Paul, in hopes of garnering some of the same success he enjoyed when racing at Road America in the 1980’s. Paul Abbott recorded at number of wins at Road America , including top finishes at the June Sprints competing in Formula Continental and C Sports Racer classes.
A second generation racer, Mishael is looking to make history at the June Sprints with double wins and at the same time secure Road America bragging rights from her father. She won the Chicago Indoor Racing Hard Charger Award for improving the most race positions at the 2004 June Sprints.
“Racing in both Formula Mazda and C Sports Racer classes will give me twice the seat time this weekend,” Mishael said. “Our race groups are scheduled such that I won’t be rushing out of one car and into the other. It will be a lot of fun!”
Open practice for all classes begins on Thursday with the Formula Mazda race on Saturday afternoon, June 23 and the C Sports Racer race on Sunday afternoon, June 24.
South Florida native Mishael Abbott is pursuing her formal education at the University of Indianapolis working on a sports management degree.
SEBRING, FL (March 15, 2007) –
Fifth Place Finish for Mishael Abbott in Race 1 at Sebring
All Three B-K Motorsports Cars Finish in Top 6
The 2007 IMSA Lites Presented by Hankook race season started today with Mishael Abbott and her B-K Motorsports team chasing the IMSA Lites 1 Championship.
Mishael Abbott started ninth on the grid in the IMSA Lites 1 class in her B-K Motorsports, Mazda powered, Elan DP02 at Sebring International Raceway this afternoon. Her qualifying session the day before was shortened with a flat tire and a high oil temperature alarm.
Mishael was moving up through the field in the opening laps before a crash in turn 17 resulted in a full-course caution. She weaved through the debris field and closed up to the lead pack. After an extended caution period the field went back to green, but only a lap before another incident brought out a second full-course caution.
The race ended at the 30-minute time limit under full-course yellow with Mishael in fifth place. She was hoping for another restart and the chance to improve a few more positions with a final race lap.
“It has been a stressful weekend but we moved up to fifth even with so few race laps,” Mishael Abbott said. “My Mazda motor performed just awesome today. I really love my B-K Motorsports team. They worked so hard this week and it really showed. I hope tomorrow will be even better for us.”
It was a banner day for B-K Motorsports. Mishael’s teammate Gerardo Bonilla won the race and Kurt Roehrig finished sixth.
“What a debut for B-K Motorsports, Mazda and Bob Bach,” said Steve Levinsohn, B-K Motorsports Lites Team Manager. “Just an incredible effort by everyone on the team. Gerardo and Mishael are going to be the formidable duo out there this season. They are just working so well together. The fruits of our labor paid off in the best way with all three cars in the top six – it’s just amazing!”
The second of two IMSA Lites races supporting the American Le Mans Series 55th Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring (www.imsaracing.net) is Friday, March 16, at 4:05 p.m.
Mishael Abbott finished first among DP02 cars this January at the SCCA Winter Vacation Nationals at Sebring and has first place and podium finishes in her Formula Mazda there. Mishael even set the course record in a professional shifter-kart in April 1999.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
INDIANAPOLIS (January 10, 2007) –
Mishael Abbott Finishes First Among DP-02 Cars at
Sebring
Race Served as Test for 12 Hours of Sebring
Mishael Abbott
started off the 2007 season just the way she wanted in
her B-K Motorsports, Elan DP-02 powered by Mazda.
Mishael finished first among the IMSA Lites 1 class
cars at Sebring International Raceway’s 3.6-mile
long-track during the SCCA Central Florida Region
Winter Vacation Nationals on Sunday.
Mishael Abbott used the SCCA race weekend to test and
set up her new Mazda powered Elan DP-02 in preparation
for her debut during the 12 hours of Sebring, March
14-17, as the 2007 IMSA Lites season kicks off.
“It was a really good weekend for my first race in
this car,” said Mishael Abbott. “My Team Manager,
Marcus Haselgrove, and the rest of the B-K Motorsports
team did an awesome job. I learned a lot this weekend,
plus we had a great result.”
“This was a good outing for B-K and Mishael,” said
Marcus Haselgrove. “We ran through a lot of setups,
implemented new staff into the team, and ended up
being the first IMSA Lites car in the race. Everybody
worked really hard and I think the results show.”
Mishael plans to schedule another SCCA National event
weekend in February to get more seat time in
preparation for the beginning of the IMSA Lites season
(www.imsaracing.net).
“There is still more that I can get out of the car,”
Mishael said. “With some additional practice time and
working hard with the team to further develop my
skills, I am confident we’ll be going much faster in
March.”
Mishael Abbott is pursuing her formal education at the
University of Indianapolis working on a sports
management degree.
